About Matthew Beal
Matthew D. Beal, MD, FAOA, is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. His specialties include hip, knee, joint replacement, and adult joint reconstruction. Prior to coming to Hughston Clinic Orthopaedics in Nashville, Dr. Beal was Vice-Chair of Education and an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine and he practiced at Northwestern Medical Group in Chicago, IL.
Dr. Beal received his undergraduate degree in Biology and History and his Medical Degree at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. He completed his orthopaedic surgery internship and residency at University of Chicago Hospital, Chicago, IL. After residency, he finished an Adult Reconstruction Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA.
Dr. Beal’s professional activities include active committee work with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons (ABOS), for which he has recently been recognized for his service. He is a fellow of the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA), American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery (AAOS), and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He has served at the ABOS Blueprint Planning Meeting as the Adult Reconstruction Content Expert and has taught the AAOS Basic Hip and Knee Reconstruction Resident Course. He has been nominated for the executive committee for the American Orthopedic Association (AOA). Since 2014, Dr. Beal has trained 8 orthopaedic surgeons in adult reconstruction fellowships and more than 75 resident physicians during his 11 year career.
Dr. Beal has authored numerous articles and book chapters, and he presents his research at the national level. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, and the Journal of Arthroplasty. He is also a contributing editor for “Sounds from the training room,” which is the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, JAAOS Online Mentorship Consortium. He has also served as a Board Examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Beal will continue his research endeavors through the Hughston Foundation and he will begin seeing patients at Hughston Orthopaedics in Nashville, TN.
