About William Mayfield

Dr. Mayfield is Board Certified with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and the United States Medical Licensing Examination. He is affiliated with StoneCrest Medical Center, Physicians Pavilion, and maintains courtesy affiliation with Southern Hills Medical Center.

Dr. Mayfield completed a Fellowship in Sports Medicine at Cincinnati Sports Medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 2004. He did his residency and internship in orthopedic surgery at the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile, Alabama. He was awarded his Medical Degree in 1998 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Mayfield’s honors and awards include Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Kappa Phi from the University of Mississippi, Gamma Beta Phi, and Phi Eta Sigma at Vanderbilt University. He was a 1990 National Merit Finalist.

Dr. Mayfield was a member of the Carl G. Evers Society at the University of Mississippi where he established a Student/Faculty Mentor Program, and worked on a Professor Awards Banquet, Course Evaluation Protocols, and organized Primary Care Day for Medical Students. He has been a member of the Pharmacology Liaison Committee, the American Medical Association, and the Christian Medical/Dental Association Surgery Committee at The University of South Alabama.
